Composition 4: Symmetry, Asymmetry and    Balance



     Symmetry: Symmetry is when a photos looks identical on both sides. To tell whether a picture is symmetric, draw a line down the middle of the picture and if it looks exactly the same on both sides you will know its symmetric. 

                                                      
                         
                                           

                                           

                                           

                                           


Asymmetry: Asymmetry is when a photo has two objects that have two different weights and sizes. 

                                           

                                           

                                           

                                           

                                           




Balance: Balance is when you have two objects in a photo that can look different but have the same weight. 

                                                

                                           

                                           

                                           

                                           

   

Leading Lines, Decorative Lines and Arrangement of Lines               

Leading Lines to a Subject: Is where the main focus of the photo is a pathway that leads the viewers eyes to a specific subject at the end. 

 

Decorative Line: Is when the main focus of a photo are the lines but if you where to take the lines away from the main subject, the main picture would still exist. For instance In the elephant photo and bridge photo the decorative lines on both on the main subject, when if fact the other lines around them would be considered Arrangement of Lines. 

Arrangement of Lines: Is the way the lines are set up in each photo, where if you were to remove them, the main focus of the photo would be gone. 

                                                Leading Lines, Depth Staging and Repetition


Leading lines: Refers to a composition technique where the viewers eye is attracted to lines that lead directly to the subject in the image.

                                              

  

Depth Staging: Is an arrangement of objects on a set so that foreground, middle ground and background are each clearly defined.

Repetition: Repeating a shape throughout your photos

Rule of thirds, Diagonals and Triangles
