Artist Statement
This week in class I focused on trying to demonstrate the ideas of black-lighting, silhouettes and shadows through Symmetry, Asymmetry and Balance. The first few photos are what I tried to demonstrate but the rest are just freely taken with the exception of black-lighting, silhouettes and shadows with in the pictures. This week unfortunately was quite cloudy which set me back since the main element of the photo that I needed was the sun which was not super prominent. I worked with what I could and tried to express these different techniques through each picture.
Symmetry
Asymmetry
Balanced
Photo's that don't go under any category
I like the high contrast on all of these photos. Some are a little dark so it's hard to see specific details in terms of texture, but I think it works if you were going for more silhouette style shots, in which case it's excellent.
ReplyDeleteYou photos this week are stunning! The high contrast make the sky so beautiful. But I almost think the clouds are too distracting to the silhouette. Great job this week!
ReplyDeleteSophie, your photos are amazing. The theme of light and dark brings the composition together. I enjoy the technique of mirroring that you use in your photos. I don't think that there is anything that needs improvement. Good job.
ReplyDeleteThe overall theme of black and white/light and dark is so cool! Nothing wrong with these photos this week, as usual.
ReplyDeleteHi Sophie, I thought your use of the darkness in your photos was really striking and leaves quite an impression; It almost feels like you are in another world. I especially enjoyed the contrast in your 2nd balance photo and your first two asymmetry photos. Well done!
ReplyDeleteNice work Sophie!! These photos are great, and I am a big fan of the shadowy images and the darker tones. My favorite image is the fourth image in your asymmetry composition because you showed asymmetry by light and dark tones which is great.
